Hello, my name is Joseph Bettura. I am 25 years old and I live in Canfield, OH. As a graduate of the Canfield High School Class of 2005 I have had some great experiences that prepared me for the workforce. I was fully included throughout my education and I was a member of the Marching Band (snare drum!), Bowling Team and Drama Club. I participated in a work program in my final years at school and I now work and volunteer in the community. I work 3 days a week in the maintenance department of a local hotel, I work 2 days a week creating new charts and filing charts at a local attorneys office and I volunteer at DSAV (Down Syndrome Association of the Valley) which is a local organization. I am working with my team to raise funds through our local Buddy Walk and for the last two years my team has been in the top 10 teams for fundraising. It helps when you are as well known as I am in the community! In addition to my busy work schedule, I love supporting my younger brother Jared in his sports activities. A photo of me with Jared and the 2011 senior basketball players was selected for the Times Square video to be shown in September. I have been an active supporter for Jared's teams for many years and I am included in the team pictures, the team banquets and I have helped at all of the team fundraisers. I did the same thing when my sister, Joelle, was a cheerleader in high school. I was front and center cheering with the squad at every game. My family, my mom & dad, sister Joelle and brother Jared, are my biggest advocates and supporters. They have been my voice in many situations in which I have not been able to represent myself and they make sure that the outcome is equal to what other people in society, who do not have different abilities, experience in life. I am an active participant in my daily choices and I am a very happy guy. Everybody has different abilities and gifts. My mom says that one of my gifts is my ability to simply accept people without seeing people's differences. She calls me an "equal opportunity acceptor"! In addition to the busy activities I have talked about so far, I also want everyone to know that my all-time favorite vacation is to go to Disney World. I try to go at least once a year and my favorite park is Disney Hollywood Studios to watch the Indiana Jones show. It is, without a doubt, my favorite thing! I look forward to continuing in my community jobs and supporting my brother and sister in their activities as they have supported me in mine and of course, I look forward to my next visit to Disney!
