The 20th Annual Flagship Buddy Walk in New York City will be taking place on Saturday, September 20. 2014 to honor and celebrate individuals with Down syndrome in our communities. This event raises awareness and funds for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families.
The Flagship Buddy Walk® will again kick off in Times Square where people from all over the world gather to watch the annual NDSS Times Square Video. There is no way to describe the magical feeling in Times Square, but this EarthCam video from the 2013 celebration provides footage from the presentation on New Corporation’s Sony screen that definitely captures the magnitude of the event. Please note that EarthCam records the sounds of the street whereas the NDSS Times Square Video that is featured on YouTube is set to music. Submissions are now being accepted for the 2014 Times Square Video Photo Contest.
Starting at 11:00 AM, activities of all kinds will be taking place at the Great Hill in Central Park, the scene of the 2014 Flagship Buddy Walk® in New York City. The kids’ area will be filled with carnival games, parachute games, jewelry-making, face painting, and participants will enjoy food, fruit and water. The Exhibitor Marketplace will include free giveaways and fun activities sponsored by local agencies, support groups, museums and retailers. Registration will be open throughout the entire day.
The Opening Ceremonies will kick off at 12:00 pm with the Buddy Walk® itself starting at 12:30. After a one mile, non-competitive walk into Central Park, Chris Burke with John and Joe DeMasi will perform their folk-rock music hits and the Walk will end with the popular self-advocate led Dance Party. Our full entertainment schedule will be available shortly.
